Oct 13, 2015: Roland Balk: SQLento: a new database programming language

October 13, 2015SQLento: a new database programming language
Room: HB 2ARoland Balk

E.F. Codd's relational model has lead to the development of one of the most popular databases known today, the relational database. Most relational databases use SQL as programmable interface, which makes queries easy to express and allows to specify relationships precisely. Unfortunately, database programming can be challenging. Especially when a general purpose programming language like Java has to express SQL statements. We have explored a list of concerns and existing solutions to gain insights of the situation. The knowledge has been used to propose an own solution, a new database language to solve these concerns.

This presentation will be about the concerns, the existing solutions, the new database language and the concerns which have been solved.
